Great suggestions!

March 22, 2010

We love that you are edotting!

The edot site launched less than 24 hours ago, and the usage is awesome.  We really appreciate the feedback and ideas and are will be making updates as we grow.

Here’s a quick look at the next areas of focus:

Categories: This will be flushed out and more detailed as we build the site, so please keep sending in ideas.  The eventual goal is that the points will translate to usable data–i.e, carbon offset, $ donated, barrels of oil saved, etc.  Right now, the points are small benchmarks to keep us motivated.

Ranking System: Add your points and reach new levels–this will be added shortly.  After that will be badges that will allow you to click on a badge to quickly submit your “one thing.”

Conversation: Social media wouldn’t be very social without a place for “Recycled Trash Talk,” would it?  This is on the drawing board as well–can’t wait to add it and see it in action!

More thoughts and ideas?  Let us know!

Neat site, great concept. Kudos all, and a big hello to Jesse! I like the ability to choose whether to tweet or not, so I can choose the balance that feels right between personal tracking and point gathering, and public bragging/promotion/evangelizing. Also, I love how the category pop-up serves and educational purpose; by seeing options I wouldn’t have thought of, I’m reminded of other things I can do. One suggestion: make that social, so, for example, enable a way for people to suggest new categories, and maybe even suggest, discuss, and converge on point values for them. In the future, perhaps explain the point system, and have a bit of descriptive text for each category: what it means, how to do it, why it is assigned the points it has. This could be constructed wiki-style, perhaps with the inclusion of input from some experts in green stuff.

thanks Hector. So sad about Joe. He was supposed to come to the Allentown Comic Con 2 weeks ago (Chris and I were exhibitors there), but canceled last miut#e&n8230; now we know why. Well, now we suspect why.

    Hi Dan,

I love your suggestions! I’ll take this post and put it on our punch list of things we’re working on. Ryan and I are specifically working through the categories right now to make the value more apparent–and the Jesse and Rob get to figure out how to make that work behind the scenes! The whole point of the “points” is to be able to see our really additions to the world, so that’s a very important growth area for us. We’re happy with the start (considering we put this together over a very intense start-up weekend) but also excited about the potential.

Thank you for the contributions to the site and for your ideas–keep them coming–this is a work in progress, and the whole focus is community.

Between 8-12 a day. You should get a pack or two of newborn size and then several of the next size up for the first weeks. Usually the amount they use goes down as they get older. +3Was this answer helpful?
